5-Day Art Habit Starter Course

Want to make more art—but struggle to actually get started?

You don't need more supplies, more inspiration, or another tutorial saved for later.

You need a way to make art even when inspiration doesn't show up.

The free 5-Day Art Habit Starter Course will help you create a simple, realistic framework for making art more regularly.

For five days, I'll send you one short lesson and one small action to take.

By the end, you'll have a plan—and you'll have tested it in real life.

    Here's what we'll work on.

Instead of focusing on what you should paint or how good the finished piece should be, we'll look at the practical pieces that make it easier to actually show up. We’re going to start thinking like a habit-based painter..

Day 1 — Stop Waiting for Inspiration

We'll look at the difference between making art when you feel inspired and building a practice you can actually return to.

You'll start thinking about art as something you can intentionally make space for—not something that has to begin with motivation.

    Day 2 — Make Time

You'll decide how much time you realistically have for art and when it can fit into your life.

    No mythical free afternoon required.

    Day 2 — Choose a Project

One of the easiest ways to lose your art time is to spend it wondering what to make.

You'll choose a project that gives you a clear place to start when you sit down.

    Day 3 — Make Space

We'll look at your materials and workspace and find simple ways to reduce the friction between I should paint and I'm painting.

You don't need a dedicated studio.

You just need a setup that works for you.

    Day 5 — Do a Test Run

    Now you'll try it.

You'll use the time, project, space, and materials you've chosen and run through your new art routine once.

Then you'll notice what worked, what didn't, and what you want to adjust.

You don't need the perfect art habit.

You need one that works for you.

Your art practice doesn't have to look like anyone else's.

You don't have to paint for three hours every morning.

You don't need a dedicated studio.

And you definitely don't have to wait until you're more skilled, more confident, or less busy.

We're going to work with the life, time, space, and materials you have right now.

Because the goal of these five days isn't to create the perfect routine.

It's to make it easier to come back and make art again and again and again.

    Hi, I'm Kelly.

I'm an artist, teacher, and host of the Learn to Paint Podcast.

I've spent years talking with artists about how they make their work—and helping self-directed artists build their own painting practices.

And one thing has become very clear:

Learning how to make art matters.

But first, you have to actually make art.

    That's why I created this 5-day course.

It's a small first step toward spending less time thinking about the art you want to make—and more time making it.

And it’s what I wished I’d had when I first started my own self-directed path.

    Ready to start making art?

    Give me five days.

We'll build a simple framework for your art practice—and then you'll test it out for yourself.

If you're waiting to feel inspired, you're leaving your art practice up to chance.

Inspiration is wonderful when it appears.

You see a painting you love. You get excited about a new idea. You buy a new sketchbook and can't wait to use it.

And for a little while, making art feels easy.

      But inspiration comes and goes.

When life gets busy, you don't know what to paint, or the initial excitement wears off, it's easy for your art supplies to sit untouched.

      Days turn into weeks.

And eventually you find yourself thinking:

I really need to start painting again.

The problem isn't that you need to feel more inspired.

You need a simple framework that helps you make art whether you're inspired that day or not.

That's what we're going to build over the next five days.
