Jump Start Your New Year of Painting with the #20for20ArtChallenge2022

Showing up matters. It’s one of the most prominent themes on the show.

Show up and you will improve your skill.

Show up and you will find your style.

Show up and you will become less precious and more daring in your work.

Consistency. Consistency. Consistency.

BUT WHERE TO START?

So many of us wait for time to appear in our schedule or our art. It can be so easy to say, “I’ll paint when I finally have an hour or two.”

But then that hour never comes.

I’ve definitely fallen into this trap the last few months. It’s so easy to have happen.

The way to create or to get back to a daily habit is to start small. So small that you have no excuses not to do it.

So I’d like to invite you to start 2022 with making time for your art by joining the #20for20ArtChallenge2022. All skills levels welcome. We’re going to start small, just 20 minutes, and be fully committed to showing up each and every day for 20 days, Jan. 1 - 20.

Unsure what a hashtag challenge is? Debbie Miller (Ep.35) talks about them here!

THE CHALLENGE

Starting January 1st, commit to painting or drawing for 20 minutes a day for just 20 days. The goal is to show up and make space for your art.

Here are the steps:

  1. Draw or paint for 20 minutes. Any subject. Any medium. If that time extends further, great!

  2. Share your work on Instagram and write about what you learned.

  3. Use the hashtag #20for20ArtChallenge2022 when you post.

  4. Feel good about MAKING time for your art.

  5. Repeat.

This challenge is about putting your toe into daily artmaking in order to find where it can fit in your life.

Because if you want to get good at painting, you have to MAKE the time for it.

Start now with just 20 minutes and see where it goes.

WHY START SMALL?

Many of the guests (including Ep. 40 Sari Shryack) started small. Starting small doesn’t leave room for excuses. ALL of us have 20 minutes.

Starting small also helps us poke around our own lives to see where art might be a good fit. You can try placing it in the morning and see how it feels. Or move it to the afternoon to see if it’s better there.

Starting small gives you the flexibility to see where it’ll work best to grow it to 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 120 minutes.

WHO CAN JOIN THE CHALLENGE

All skill levels, media and subject matter welcome. Just use the hashtag #20for20ArtChallenge2022 on Instagram anytime you post your work starting January 1st, 2020!

You can paint or draw whatever you want. The goal is to find something (or several somethings) you can fit in a small amount of time so that showing up feels good.

JOIN ME ON PATREON
