Create Your Art While Living Life with Ingrid Christensen

While always loving art, Ingrid Christensen (Ep.87) didn’t choose artist as a profession.

But she still made space for it in her life. Here’s how.

When her children were small, she found herself with pockets of time where she was just… waiting. Doctor’s offices. Swim practices. Lessons.

She realized that she could actually use these for art. She began carrying art books with her to places and would spend the 45 minutes looking at art. She began to train her eye by using the masters as guides.

Put it to Practice:

Some day, in the future, you may have three hour sessions to paint. But if that day isn’t today, you don’t have to WAIT to start building your art habit. There are ways to use the time you have NOW to improve your painting skills.

And while they may not seem very satisfying on paper, you might be surprised at the power they have when you show up to them again and again, day after day.

So first, look at your life and ask yourself if there are pockets of time you could use for art. Maybe that’s studying the greats through books. Maybe that’s carrying a sketchbook and sketching for five minutes in the pick up line or waiting for practice to end.

You’ll be amazed at how much you’ll improve in a year if you swapped scrolling for sketching when in a parked car.

These small chunks of time don’t sound like much. But when strung together, they add up.

And even more importantly, you begin looking at your life FOR the opportunities to snag 5 or 10 minutes to work on skills.

This means that when you do get to a point where you can make more time for art, you’ve been building skills and aren’t starting from scratch. You will hit the ground running.
